Coast Guard establishes safety zone on Allegheny River

PITTSBURGH - The Coast Guard Captain of the Port in Pittsburgh is scheduled to establish a safety zone on  the Allegheny River, Saturday, Sept. 27, 2008, in support of the Head of the Ohio Regatta which is sponsored by the Three Rivers Rowing Association.

Navigation will be restricted for the entire width of the river from mile marker 0 to mile marker 2.5.  The safety zone will be enforced from 7:15 a.m. until noon and from 1 p.m. until approximately 6 p.m.

Persons and vessels shall not enter into, depart from or move within this safety zone unless specifically authorized by the Captain of the Port in Pittsburgh or a designated representative.

Questions concerning this matter should be directed to Matt DeFusco at (412) 644-5808 ext. 2112 between 7:30 a.m. and 4 p.m.  After normal working hours, contact the Marine Safety Unit in Pittsburgh at (412) 670-4288. Also you can contact the Coast Guard via VHF-FM channel 16.
