Coast Guard to host multi-agency response exercise

WICKLIFFE, Ky. - The Coast Guard is scheduled to host a multi-agency table-top exercise at Newpage in Wickliffe, Ky., Sept. 30, 2008 at 9 a.m., by simulating a transportation security incident involving hazardous materials that pose a threat to life and property.

The exercise is designed for local, state, federal and industry agencies to test a tri-state area response and to use the Area Maritime Security Plan of the Maritime Transportation Security Act of 2002. The MTSA of 2002 delegated the U.S. Coast Guard with the authority and jurisdiction to establish an Area Maritime Security Committee to develop and maintain security plans as a result of the terrorist incident of 9/11.

Following the exercise, a debrief and evaluation will be conducted and procedures will be developed to improve maritime security plans and procedures for responding to transportation security incidents in the tri-state region.

A public information officer is scheduled to be available at 12:15 p.m. for questions regarding the exercise. For additional information, contact Lt. Duane Lemmon, at (270) 442-1621.
