Coast Guard rescues stranded windsurfer

PANAMA CITY, Fla. - The Coast Guard rescued a windsurfer who was stranded on a range marker near Courtney Point in St. Andrew's Bay late Saturday, Oct. 11, 2008 near Panama City.

Coast Guard Sector Mobile received a report Saturday evening from a Good Samaritan reporting that they had rescued a windsurfer in the same area and needed Coast Guard assistance to find the another windsurfer who was still in the water.

Sector Mobile launched an HH-65C rescue helicopter and crew from Air Station New Orleans and a 25-foot rescue smallboat from Station Panama City.  An Urgent Marine Information Broadcast (UMIB) was also issued to mariners as a caution in the area.

The windsurfer was located sitting on a range marker by the smallboat and transported the surfer to shore.
